LEARN TO SEA KAYAK

Kayak Guide Justin is an ACA Certified Level 3 Coastal Sea Kayak Instructor offering sea kayak classes, team trainings for guides and one-on one coaching for paddlers of all skill levels. Bring your own sea kayak or rent one for your lesson. Classes can be arranged for single or multiple sessions. Class sizes are limited to 5 participants per session.

     Learn the core basics of sea kayaking from an ACA certified L3 Sea Kayak Instructor with this 4-hour course designed to quickly get you paddling like a pro. All the neccesary equipment is provided so this course is perfect for those looking to try out a high quality sea kayak before making the investment. Class begins on beach with an overview, the we hit the water for instruction & practice time with feedback. ​​

     This course will show you how to keep your balance with proper technique and efficiently move your boat forward with control. We'll cover bracing techniques to prevent capsizes but also give you the basic knowledge of how to stay safe and avoid trouble situations. The Great Lakes are very dynamic waters and this course is recommended for anyone that is interested in paddling the open waters of Lake Michigan here in Door County.

     What is a greenland paddle? It is the original sea kayak paddle developed over 4,000 years ago.  Its efficient, requires less energy, very fast and stable in the water. The greenland paddle is much easier on the shoulders and learning this method will extend your paddling career and provide a very safe experience in any conditions.

     In this course you'll learn the technique and core concepts of how to use the greenland paddle correctly as well as basic manuevering and the low brace. If you have used a Euro paddle for many years you will be suprised how quickly you can learn a new style of paddling. Students must own a greenland paddle or can rent one with lesson.

Class begins 8am Tuesday June 24 and ends Thursday June 26, 2025

     This 3 day course will test & teach your ability to paddle in wind and waves here on the upper Great Lakes. This course can count as your level 3 skills assessment or level 3 IDW instructor workshop for eligible participants. 3 full days of training with lunch breaks and rest breaks with classroom and on-water time. Much of the class will be hands on in the water so please come prepared with functioning equipment. Sea kayaks and gear can be rented but must be arranged in advance. Class is limited to 5 participants.​

     Take the fastrack to learning with one-on-one sea kayak coaching and a personalized education session that covers exactly what you want to learn. Lessons can be structured to meet your skill level and help you quickly progress to the next. Beyond technique, you will also get coaching from a professional guide on everything form navigating the Great Lakes to selecting and purchasing your own sea kayak gear. Included with your coaching session is unlimited online follow-up support to help you continue your sea kayakk progression on your own.

​     In the past, students have requested lesson topics such as self-rescue safety, island crossing & expedition, kayak rolling, greenland-style kayak rolling. Much of the class will be hands on in the water so please come prepared with functioning equipment. Sea kayaks and gear can be rented but must be arranged in advance. Class is generally one-on-one but small groups up to 5 people are welcome for a group rate.
