Kayak Door County Like a Local Pro

If you’re searching for the best way to kayak Door County, you’re in the right place.

Welcome. I’m Kayak Guide Justin — a local Door County guide, ACA Level 3 Coastal Sea Kayak Instructor, and Wisconsin Master Naturalist — and I’ve spent many years paddling these waters. From the cliffs of Cave Point to the wild shoreline of Door Bluff, I can tell you this: Door County is one of the best kayaking destinations in the Midwest — if you do it right.

Not all tours are the same. The difference between a crowded, beginner paddle and a true Great Lakes sea kayaking experience is huge. This guide breaks it all down so you can choose the best kayak tour in Door County for your trip.

Why Kayak Door County?

Door County sits along the edge of Lake Michigan and Green Bay, where wind, waves, and limestone cliffs create a landscape unlike anywhere else in Wisconsin.

What Makes It Special:

  • 300+ miles of shoreline

  • Dramatic limestone cliffs (Niagara Escarpment)

  • Sea caves, shipwrecks, and hidden coves

  • Calm inland waters + challenging open lake routes

  • Wildlife: eagles, herons, fish, and freshwater ecosystems

"We've been coming to Door County for decades and this was one of our all-time great adventures, thanks to Justin. We were scheduled to explore the Niagara Escarpment, but the wind and waves would have been too much for us. Justin adjusted the plan on the fly, and we went to the calmer side of the peninsula and explored the Mink River estuary. I can't imagine a better guide: Justin's instruction was excellent - we were on the water in no time.

Justin really knows the area, every aspect: geology, history, conservation, birds, flora, fauna, the little water-lilies and the huge sweep of forests. He encouraged us gently, kept us moving, and yet we never felt rushed. We talked, but we also listened. We learned about the waterways, and we learned about ourselves and what we could do with an able guide. An amazing adventure with a fabulous waterman. Wherever you might go with him - do it!"
